Are classes ever cancelled for weather or holidays?
Snow days here are the same as the Asheville City Schools. So be sure to watch out for school closings. We have class on such holidays as President.s Day, Martin Luther King Day, etc. However, see the schedule below for dates we do close.
What is this Pre-Professional Program I hear so much about?
The program is an individually tailored study of 8-13 classes per week. Students are provided assistance with videos, photos, resumes, and auditions, as well as advisement for summer and professional study.
What productions will the Asheville Ballet be putting on this year?
This season's performances include major ballets such as The Nutcracker (preformed every year), Swan Lake, and a concert of new choreography in classical and contemporary styles. Productions will be cast from members of Asheville Ballet and ADDANCE. Extras (Bon Bons, children, parents) will be chosen by teacher recommendation.
When can my child finally wear pointe shoes?
Done improperly, pointe work is dangerous. Please do not ask about pointe shoes until you are 11 years old, have been taking two technique classes per week for 2 years, and are prepared to take 3 classes per week. Then with instructor permission you are welcome to join our fabulous pointe classes.
Where can we park?
Free parking is available beside the studio in the lower parking lot.
What should I take?
Students are placed according to level. Recreational dancers are welcome everywhere. Children may not participate in Asheville Ballet without taking TWO classes per week. The occasional young person who demonstrates interest in possibly pursuing a professional career at the college level (as a performer, choreographer, or teacher) should work their way up to the Pre Professional Program by 14 or 15 years.
What should I wear?
Dress for all classes should be simple and appropriate. Consult the instructor. Hair should be pulled back. Pre-School: black or pink leotard, pink ballet slippers, pink tights. Ballet I-II: black leotard, pink tights, pink ballet slippers. Boys: white or black t-shirt, black tights, and white or black ballet slippers.
What happens when I miss a class?
Absences are the student.s responsibility to make up. Students may make up with any type of dance class (i.e. a ballet can be made up with a modern). There will not be a tuition adjustment except for relocation or long-term illness or injury. Much can be learned from watching a class, and a watched class does not have to be made up. Classes must be made up within the month following the absence.
